Six months to go before start of Eisteddfod
There’s only six months to go before Blaenau Gwent and the Heads of the Valleys welcomes the whole of Wales to the area for the National Eisteddfod, held at The Works, Ebbw Vale from 31 July – 7 August this year.
This is the first time the National Eisteddfod has visited the area since 1958, and local people are actively raising awareness throughout the area.
Richard Davies, Chair of the local Executive Committee, is looking forward to the end of July:
“It’s difficult to believe that there’s only six months to go before the start of the Eisteddfod. We are very much looking forward to welcoming the people of Wales – and beyond – to the area, and are confident that we’ll have a week to remember!”
Eisteddfod Organiser,Hywel Wyn Edwards, added:
“We are very happy with the progress on this year’s festival. The Maes is in a great location for visitors from all over Wales, and is being prepared for the Eisteddfod at the moment. Application forms for pitches on the official caravan site in Parc Bryn Bach, with its excellent facilities, are now available, and stands are now available to book, with all the information on our website.
“Local people are enthusiastic and very supportive, and I hope that visitors will flock here from all over Wales to enjoy the Blaenau Gwent and Heads of the Valleys National Eisteddfod.”
The National Eisteddfod festival attracts around 160,000 visitors annually, and is held in north and south Wales alternately. Entry to all festival activities is free for the price of a daily Maes ticket.
The Eisteddfod receives a grant from the Welsh Assembly Government through the Welsh Language Board, and from all unitary authorities in Wales through a partnership agreement with the Welsh Local Government Association.
