Golf Competition
This year’s an important year for Eisteddfod supporters who enjoy a round of golf. The Eisteddfod’s own golf competition celebrates its twenty-fifth birthday this year, and a group of keen golfers will get together again in 2010 to take part in the tournament, held in the West Monmouthshire Golf Club.
The competition was held for the first time in 1985, when the Eisteddfod visited Rhyl, and over the following quarter of a century, supporters have been able to play on some of Wales’ best courses, with the weather kinder during some years than others! But, rain or shine, the group still get together to compete for the beautiful trophy every year.
This year, we can enjoy the hospitality at the highest course in the UK – with the 14th hole over 1500 feet above sea level. The course enjoys panoramic views of Monmouthshire, Powys and the Valleys, from its vantage point close to the village of Nantyglo.
The course was developed over a century ago and opened in 1906. Over the years, both the course and the amenities have been improved, and today, it’s one of Wales’ most popular courses, with a friendly and welcoming clubhouse. So why not take part in the competition this year? Who knows, you could be the one lifting the beautiful trophy at the end of the day?
The competition is held on Wednesday 4 August. For more information, contact the Club Sercretary on 01495 310 233, and we look forward to seeing you on the day!
