2021 National Eisteddfod to be held in Llŷn and Eifionydd

Eisteddfod Chief Executive, Betsan Moses, said, “We are delighted to announce the location of the 2021 National Eisteddfod.  There’s been lots of discussion and speculation across the area for a while, and with everything now in place, I’m pleased to be able to share the news that Boduan, between Nefyn and Pwllheli will be our home in August 2021.

“We’ve had wonderful support from people across Llŷn and Eifionydd, and are very much looking forward to working with local residents across the area to deliver a memorable festival and project,

“We are keen to attract a wide range of people with all sorts of interests and expertise to be part of the team, with the experienced and the young working together to create a project and festival which will attract thousands of competitors and visitors.

“Anyone interested in joining us as part of the team can register online or come to the public meeting in Pwllheli.  And we look forward to a happy eighteen months working across the region.”

Welcoming the news about the Eisteddfod’s visit to the county, Gwynedd Council Leader, Councillor Dyfrig Siencyn said, “We are very pleased to welcome the National Eisteddfod to Gwynedd in 2021.  This is the first time for the festival to visit the Dwyfor area since 1987, and I’m confident our local communities will ensure it’s an Eisteddfod to remember.

“Of course, thousands of people will flock here to compete or enjoy the festival during the week, and it’s our aim to celebrate our culture and everything we are proud of in Gwynedd.

“As a Council, we have helped the Eisteddfod to identify possible sites, and we are pleased that they are announcing that Boduan will be home to the festival in two years’ time.  There is, of course, lots of work to do before then, and we are looking forward to working together, planning and preparing for the event between now and August 2021.”

The public meeting is an opportunity for local people to show their support for the Eisteddfod and to volunteer to be part of the project.  The community is pivotal to the success of the festival as the project travels around Wales.

This is the first time for the Eisteddfod to visit Llŷn and Eifionydd since 1987, when the festival was held in Porthmadog.  The Eisteddfod was last held in north Gwynedd in 2005.
