The effect of postponing the 2020 Eisteddfod on the Llŷn and Eifionydd festival

Will the Eisteddfod be held this year?

Unfortunately, the Eisteddfod Management Board has had to take the very difficult decision to move the Ceredigion National Eisteddfod to the summer of 2021.  Although the festival itself is not for another four months, we have had to take the construction phase into account as well as current restrictions on gatherings, and the impact this would have on our competitions, performances and concerts.

The safety of our volunteers, supporters, visitors, competitors, artists and staff is of paramount importance to us, so we are deferring the Eisteddfod for a year. We, like you, are disappointed that we will be unable to hold the festival this year, but we look forward to welcoming everyone to Tregaron in summer 2021, with an amazing artistic programme.

What about the Llŷn and Eifionydd National Eisteddfod?

The Eisteddfod Management Board has agreed to move the Llŷn and Eifionydd Eisteddfod to August 2022 and the 2023 Eisteddfod will be held in the Rhondda Cynon Taf area. This has also been agreed with the local authorities in these areas. The Llŷn and Eifionydd Eisteddfod Proclamation Festival will also be postponed from June this year.

When will you publish the List of Competitions?

We will publish the list of competitions in the summer of 2021, to enable us to return to the normal deadline process from 2022 onwards.  We will announce the details once we have confirmed all the arrangements.

When is the deadline for the Prose Medal and the Daniel Owen Memorial Prize for the Llŷn and Eifionydd Eisteddfod?

The deadline for the Daniel Owen Memorial Prize for the 2022 Eisteddfod has moved to 1 October 2021 and the deadline for the Prose Medal has moved to 1 December 2021.

I have promised to donate a prize to the Llŷn and Eifionydd Eisteddfod. What will happen with this?

What will happen to Llŷn and Eifionydd Local Fund?

Don't worry, all the money raised locally by our volunteers for the Llŷn and Eifionydd National Eisteddfod will go towards the Eisteddfod in Boduan in two years’ time.

We hope that the campaign will be able to resume soon, but for the time being, it’s important that we take note of the advice given by medical experts.

At the moment, it’s important that we focus any social contact on helping each other, and we are sure that many of our grassroots supporters will actively support and offer help to those who are more vulnerable within our society.

I’ve applied for one of the Gorsedd opportunities at the Llŷn and Eifionydd Eisteddfod. What's happening with this?

We will write to everyone who has applied for one of these positions informing them that the process has been put on hold for the moment.  This is a matter for the Gorsedd Board, and we will publish their decision on our news page following their discussion.
