Statement on the Independent Review of the Eisteddfod's Stage Competitions

At the National Eisteddfod’s Management Board meeting on Thursday evening, 23 March, following the response to the announcements of the changes to this year’s competitions, organisers have looked again at the programme and have moved all the choral competitions back to the ‘traditional’ days during the week.

The aim was to use the choral competitions as a focus on some days to attract a wider audience.  However, the Eisteddfod accepts and appreciates that this proved unpopular with several choirs, and therefore there will be no change to the days of this year's choral competitions.  Our competitions programme will be published at the end of March to allow everyone the make travel, accommodation, and holiday arrangements.

This was noted and agreed by the Eisteddfod Council at its meeting on Saturday 25 March.

The Board decided to continue with the decision to introduce semi-final rounds for all group competitions.  This recommendation was presented as part of an independent review, which includes the opinions of competitors amongst others.  The Board will not overturn this decision, as it was discussed by the Executive Committee locally, by all the central committees, the Culture Committee, the Eisteddfod Council and the Management Board itself.
