Tyrd i Helpu | Come and Help

9 February 2023

The National Eisteddfod and Menter Iaith Gwynedd have announced a brand new volunteering scheme for people in Gwynedd, Tyrd i Helpu (Come and Help!)

Many of us help out with events and activities in our villages and communities or are willing to lend a hand when someone asks, hardly ever thinking of it as volunteering!

The Eisteddfod needs hundreds of volunteers each year, and a number of Welsh-language events in the Gwynedd area are also keen to attract people to help with their activities.

By coming together, the Eisteddfod and Menter Iaith Gwynedd aim to increase opportunities for Welsh speakers and learners, creating one central database in the county dedicated to Welsh-language events and activities.

Betsan Moses, Chief Executive of the Eisteddfod said, "The Eisteddfod relies on hundreds of people helping us both during the week and during our community project, and we’re keen to make sure there’s a clear and easy route for our volunteers to continue to help and support their communities following the festival.

"This is part of the Eisteddfod's legacy, and we’re delighted to be working with Menter Iaith Gwynedd on this project.  We hope this is a model that can be used in different parts of Wales following the Eisteddfod’s visit."

Iwan Hywel, Chief Officer of Menter Iaith Gwynedd added, "The Eisteddfod’s visit is an exciting time for any area, and we’re keen to build on the success of the festival for the benefit of the Welsh language and our residents across Gwynedd.  As much as we’re looking forward to the Eisteddfod itself, we’re already starting to plan the legacy at the end.  The Come and Help campaign, making it easier for people to volunteer in Welsh across the county is an important part of this.”

You can join the Come and Help database here – https://eisteddfod.wales/2023-come-and-help , and information on volunteering opportunities during the Eisteddfod in Llŷn and Eifionydd will be available soon.

The Eisteddfod will be held in Boduan near Pwllheli from 5-12 August.  For more information go online.  More information about Menter Iaith Gwynedd (Hunaniaith) can be found here, https://hunaniaith.cymru/hwp/en/home/.
